It’s a very special wedding. Esther and her friends plan this wedding months ago with organic, rustic in mind. Beautiful invitations by her very good friend Becca (lavender’s blue). Lydia & Andrew | Married

It’s great to have a long vacation. Before my trip to Hong Kong, I shot three weddings in four weeks. Now it’s time to get those pictures blogged:)

After over a year of planning remotely, Lyda & Andrew got married in Phoenix during the ‘hot’ season. I’m so excited for them as they reside in California after the wedding:)

Got a call from Valine a month ago about her wedding! For some reason her wedding photographer couldn’t photograph her wedding. So she was looking for a photographer with a very short notice. It just happened that she is friend of Esther & Ben whom I will photograph their wedding later this month. I’m glad to be able to help Valine and Michael.

Bridal Shoot with Larry

Few weeks ago Larry asked me if I’m interested to do a bridal shoot together. Of course I’m interested. We worked together before when I help 2nd shoot with him last year. With the help from Lori from Arizona Family Florist, and modeling/makeup/hair by two fabulous ladies, Hillary and Courtney from The Beauty Mark. We’re able to create this wonderful experience. This is so much fun and we’ll definitely do it again!

Film Photography

Learning photography is nothing easier than using digital camera because it provides instant review where film photography can’t achieve. However, that LCD review can be a big distraction for us as a photographer. Simply because we’re so busy checking the picture every time after we press the shutter. A term called ‘chimping‘ is introduced to digital photography which describes the habbit of checking every photo on the camera.

Don’t get me wrong, it is a great feature that we can see the picture instantly to make sure if someone has eyes closed. It is very useful for photographing children because they run / move / jump so fast that most likely you can’t get the shots you want with just one snap. However, if we spend a lot of time checking the pictures, we might not be able to capture things happening around us.

I like using film camera to capture daily life. The good thing about film camera is that I don’t need to worry about checking the LCD anymore. I just need to focus on framing, timing of the objects. One of the best thing about film photography is that I don’t get to see the pictures right away. I need to take the film rolls to the lab for development. The anticipation of the picture creates the desire for taking better pictures. Try it and you will see what I mean.

These pictures were taken with a manual focus rangefinder camera with black & white film. No photoshop work has been done to them. It really helps me to focus on framing, lighting and timing in photography.

I really enjoy photographing wedding, especially helping out other photographers as a ‘2nd’ photographer. It allows me to learn from others. Also I can photograph freely and more creatively because I don’t have the responsibility as being the main photographer. Few weeks ago I got a chance to help Christine from KISS THE CAMERA photographing Michelle & Eric’s wedding. It was a lot of fun, Christine is very easy to work with.

Esther + Ben : Engaged!

Esther & Ben are getting married in June. They have so much fun in front of the camera. This is a special session for myself because I did the entire shoot in film, yes it’s film. I really like the outcome especially I don’t need to spend time photoshop them at all. Love the vivid color and the smoothness:) All the pictures come straight from the photo-lab who develops and scans from the film directly! What a time-saving workflow,… for me:)

Shape Up US

Couple weeks ago I had a chance to attend the Shape UP US event in Mesa. It is a very meaningful event to promote wellness habit. It’s wonderful to see this movement to encourage community to stay healthy. Jyl Steinback is the driving force behind this event. Shape Up US is a non-profit organization promoting wellness through local schools / teachers. Their goal is to have healthy children and adults in this country. What a good cause!
